BLU lands on stage & Broadway making his theatrical debut as "Elgin" in David E. Talbert's LOVE IN THE NICK OF TYME
Check out yo' boy Byron BLU Mitchell in his theatrical stage debut starring as "Elgin" in David E. Talbert's LOVE IN THE NICK OF TYME. BLU's touched stages from the U.S. across to Africa performing with such greats as Christina Aguilera, Luther Vandross, Brian McKnight and more. Now he's embarked on a new journey which combines his love for music and natural comedic abilities in an all-new way.

Opening January 17th at New York's Beacon Theatre the play has set off on a 15+ city tour landing in large-capacity houses such Miami, Detroit, L.A., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles and more. Created by award-winning theatre writer/director and best-selling author David E. Talbert, LOVE IN THE NICK OF TYME is a classic tale of relationships, challenges, and dreams deferred.

A woman with an unfaithful husband and a 17-year-old son gets a fresh chance at love. The story centers on smart and sexy salon owner, Tyme Prentice, who is doing her best to raise her seventeen-year-old son, while attempting to maintain a relationship with his father, Marcelles. Marcelles has never made Tyme a priority, but goes out of his way to make sure no one else does, either. The theme of this play is knowing your worth. It's about a woman who is in love with a man who doesn't want her, but doesn't want anyone else to have her. And she continues in that relationship because she's come to the conclusion that this is the best she's going to get. The guy is the father of her 15-year-old son. So she's holding on to her past and not able to latch on to her future. This play is like an inner city fairy tale about a salon owner who realizes her worth.

The urban inspirational musical and comedy brings
BLU together familiar faces from television, film and music such as Morris Chestnut, songstress Terry Dexter, Ellia English, crooner Avant, American Idol's Trenyce, Andre Pitre, Christi Dickerson, Lyn Talbert, Jerrell Roberts, C.O.C.O. Brown and Michael Anthony Scott.

The Seattle Haunted House of Comedy

BLU was in the house at one of Seattle's hottest Comedy Events of 2005 to showcase his silky and seductively sweet vocal sounds along with his celebrity/comedic friends, including BET "Comic View" host Sheryl Underwood and funnyman Katt Williams, best known for his role as Money Mike in the blockbuster hit, "Friday After Next." The Seattle Haunted House of Comedy located at the landmark Paramount Theatre was hosted by Speedy and also featured poetry performances by the elegant linguist, Rodzilla.

The Singer, The Griot

"The truth is, I'm going to sing no matter what, whether I get paid for doing it or not. I'm just truly thankful now for the chance to let the world hear what I can do." – BLU

Enduring as a innovator in today's music world against a myriad of commericially-oriented studio voices is no serene task, especially for an artist with an inbred ability to take any sony and make it sound like a harmonious cantata of lyrics and soulful tones being shared with the world through the mouth of a prophet. When BLU opens his mouth to canter verse, every ear hearkens to his angelic modulation of every word known to the finest or hippest scholars. If you ask him his assessment of his musical flair he'll respond by saying, "I don't take this voice for granted by any means. I'm often amaze myself by what comes out of my mouth every time I sing a verse or listen to myself."

BLU, whose musical genre can best be described as a southern-style cocktail served straight-up with a splash of the forgotten blues, jazz, gospel and down-home soul sound, added with a twist of contemporary R&B; was exposed at an early age to some of the music world's phenomenal talents such as the legendary Scatman Carruthers (with whom BLU's father Jewel was vocal partners), B.B. King, Albert King, Johnnie Taylor and Bobby Blue Bland. He says that , "one of the reasons I got my nickname 'Blu' was because I always sang the blues as a child." If you listen closely to any one of his songs, you can hear the influes of any of these folks, yet BLU's music is clearly uniquely his own.

Motown Records - Out Of The Blu

The result of a collaboration with former Tony Toni Toné member Dwayne Wiggins (under Grass Roots Entertainment), produced the hit record OUT OF THE BLU under the Motown Records label. Having graced the industry with his dynamic presence BLU recorded his debut album featuring selections such as "Hide & Go Get it," "My Ol' Lady" and "Young Doctor Feelgood," to name a few.

On tour, BLU achieved fame while performing the national anthem at the Kentucky Deby, signing at a gala benefit in honor of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and touring major U.S. cities, sharing the stage with industry trendsetters including Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Luther Vandross, Brian McKnight, Will Dowing, Phil Perry, Michael Bolton and a host of others. BLU also traveled overseas to perform with recording artist Puff Johnson in a blockbuster show.
